Subject: 21683/Funding/RailCorridor-Atlanta&Chattanooga Date: Fri, 25 Oct 1996 08:25:12 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 21683 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO PURSUE SPECIAL FUNDING TO STUDY A RAIL CORRIDOR BETWEEN ATLANTA AND CHATTANOOGA, AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO WORK WITH THE ATLANTA REGIONAL COMMISSION RELATIVE TO SAID STUDY AND FUNDING. WHEREAS, the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the Chattanooga Metropolitan Statistical Area are experiencing growth; and WHEREAS, the boundaries of the two MSAs are converging with the growth; and WHEREAS, opportunities exist for cooperative initiatives between the two regions; and WHEREAS, the Chairman of the Atlanta Regional Commission will convene a summit of leaders from the two regions to discuss issues of mutual interest; and WHEREAS, initial discussions have indicated an interest for the feasibility of a passenger rail line between Atlanta and Chattanooga by both regions; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, that the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to pursue special funding to study a rail corridor between Atlanta and Chattanooga through the reauthorization of federal 0C transportation legislation and to work with the Atlanta Regional Commission on said study and funding.
